Arden Equine Pool
|
|
Everyone who is a regular at Swallowfield knows Jo’s top dressage horse Bilbo, aka Lord of the Rings, winner of several national championships and a personality not to be ignored!
At the end of last year, when Bilbo was entered for his PSG Regional final, he sustained a leg injury in the field that required considered rehabilitation. As an alternative to traditional box rest and walking in hand, Rob Walsh from Cornerhouse Equine Clinic recommended a stay at Arden Park Stables to use their Equine Pool.
Horses are able to swim instinctively and benefit from swimming for the same reasons we do. The low impact exercise takes the strain off the joints and injured soft tissue, while the low resistance of the water provides an excellent cardio-vascular workout and over a few sessions their stamina and natural technique improve. Some horses are wary of the new environment, but with initial encouragement, the majority thoroughly enjoy it.
At Arden, Steve Baraclough and his staff monitor the horse’s response throughout swimming sessions, enabling natural technique and progressive fitness development according to each client’s abilities.
Following his injury, Bilbo came back into schooling work fitter and stronger than many horses rehabilitating from similar injuries. Jo continues his swimming therapy to maintain his level of fitness, and Bilbo is not the only Swallowfield resident to benefit from the facilities at Arden Park Stables,
For further information, please visit their web site www.ardenequinepool.co.uk or contact Steven Barraclough on 01564 792653 to discuss your horse’s requirements and to book a session.
